Story Theatre Production Information

The most up-to-date information will always be on this page. Rehearsals are currently in flux due to some unexpected schedule changes...And we don’t really have show dates yet; we are working those out with elementary school principals...Needless to say, we are rehearsing when we can.

This show is very different than what most of you are probably used to. It is a true ensemble; there are no stars. Even if you only have a couple lines, you will be actively involved. Everyone will be on the stage the whole time, adding in little ad-libs and sound effects.

Please don’t take a “diva” attitude. All actors are members of equal standing.

This show is going to be something special. It is not about you as performers--we are doing a community service, providing elementary school students a glimpse into how special, exciting, and fun theatre can be.

Side note: Everyone should audition for Cinderella October 25-26. Ms. Peithmann (our choral director) is having “learn audition music days” Wednesday October 5 and October 12. While not required, I strongly recommend going to learn the music and get coached by Ms. Peithmann.

Show Details:
  • Tour 5 elementary schools (5 different days) 2pm-3pm; grades 3-5
  • Inspiration: Beatnik jazz or coffeehouse jazz
  • Costumes: All black, tight fitting, berets; colored scarf-like material used as accessories
  • Description (and rationale):
    • Using improvisational theater techniques adapted from Viola Spolin’s books and teachings, Story Theatre takes its audience on a journey through popular folk tales and classics from the storytelling tradition. Transformation, mime, music, and dance are the basis of the "Story Theatre" method. This particular direction of Story Theatre presents plays from stories, myths, folk tales, and legends, but with a Beatnik jazz twist. Students will have a fun experience as the troupe takes them on a journey of movement, spoken word, and improvisation.
    • There will be a brief question and answer session following each performance.
